Water has served as my earliest and deepest inspirations for art. All of my life, I have lived in places with a significant presence of water. In Finland, I grew up not only a five minute walk from the sea shore, but spent every summer on the islands, quite literally just staring at the patterns on the water surface. Most of these paintings were painted in New York, where I would bike daily over the Manhattan Bridge to reach my studio in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Then in the evening, I would bike along the Hudson River Greenway to reach the Columbia University campus where I taught in the Masters of Finance program. With the speed of the bike, the presence of water became a glitter of colors and light.
